NASCAR point standings help in the evaluation of the points of each car racing team and their current standings. There is a certain fixed method by which, these points are bestowed to the team. It is essential to know the point system, in order to get any sort of idea about the points. The driver of a car race gets as much as 180 points, every time that a driver wins the race. The type of car race and the series does not matter at all. The only thing that matters is that, most of the races contain the same number of points. The exception to them is the Nextel All-Star races and the Budweiser Shootout.

Bonus Points:

In case a driver leads a lap, the bonus 5 points are awarded to him. In addition, 5 bonus points are given to any driver, which leads the maximum number of laps. In case, more than one driver gets tied with regards to the lead, then each team stands to get the bonus. In case, a person happens to win the car race without leading the majority of laps, then a maximum of 190 points would be received, of which the 185 points are for the winning the series and the bonus five points are for the lead.

Miscellaneous:

NASCAR changed the chase format in the season of 2007. After the completion of as much as 26 races, the points are tallied. The teams which feature in the top 12 enter into the race for the final ten for the NEXTEL Cup of NASCAR.
