NASCAR ORIGINS
Beginning of Car Racing:
In some decades of the 20th century, the Daytona Beach in Florida was well-known as the place, which was used for setting records with regards to world land speed. The Daytona Beach became a place of pilgrimage for enthusiastic fans that used to watch the car racing events and some even participated in it. Dayton beach set as much as 15 records from the year 1905, till the year 1935. In the year 1936, a premier place for hosting the land speed records was the Bonneville Salt Flats. This led to the use of Daytona course for hosting events related to car racing. For the racing of cars, the drivers used to race 1.5 to 2 miles of beach, as a single straightaway and the highway A1A as the second straightaway.
Origin of Stock Car Racing:
The origin of stock racing was mainly in the bootlegging at the time of prohibition. Majority of the bootleggers used to circulate the illicit items and normally fast and small vehicles were used to avoid the police. Most of the drivers would involve themselves in the modification of cars for the handling and speed, in addition to the increasing capacity of cargo. Some of the drivers even would come to adore the driving, alongside the twisting roads of the mountain.
Miscellaneous:
The main “strip” considered for the NASCAR drivers is the Tennessee town of Knoxville. It begun as a Mecca for the drivers involved in bootlegging. Thanks to the abrogation of the prohibition act of 1933, the business of such bootleggers dried up. |
