NASCAR CRITICISM
Early Technology:
The technologies used in the era of the 1950 have had little similarities as compared to the vehicles of the modern days. NASCAR, till date, is continuously using vehicles which are still running on carburetors rather than the fuel injection. Rather than the double overhead cams which operate 4 valves for each cylinder, NASCAR operates cylinders having a 2 valve configuration. Majority of the tyres for the NASCAR series are made by American Racer and Goodyear tyre manufacturers. Some critics are of the view that, this has its effect both on the development of tyres as well as its competition. This has led to the absence of wet tyres.
Policies of NASCAR:
The business structure of NASCAR has faced intense criticism. Since the time NASCAR was found in the year 1947, majority of the ownership of the organization is owned by the France family. This has ensured that the majority of the revenue generated by the sport is controlled by the family. This is unlike other sports in which the revenue generated is split evenly between the players and the owners. Another criticism of NASCAR comes from the fact that, the motor racing organization does not promote some safety aspects for which NASCAR has to shell out the money. This includes the travel expenses of the safety crew.
Miscellaneous:
Thanks to the lack of drivers and the overwhelming influence of NASCAR, some motor sports have even compared the game to a dictatorship. In addition, even economic and political analysts are open and severe in their criticism of NASCAR. |
